I did not set out to build a business. I set out to do things right.
My career began at PetSmart, and from my very first day I felt something that never left me. A quiet but persistent knowing that the animals in our care deserved more than the system they were in. More time, more patience, more gentleness. That feeling grew with every dog I groomed and every year I spent in that environment. I did not just want to do better. I needed to.
When COVID changed everything, it gave me something unexpected. Space. I began grooming from home, and what happened next is something I will never forget. The difference in the dogs was undeniable. Without the noise, the rushing, and the chaos of a factory style salon, they were calmer, happier, and more trusting. I knew then that this was not just a better way to groom. It was the only way I could groom in good conscience.
Life had other plans before I could build something bigger. A move, a change, a new beginning. And from all of that, Zen Pet Spa was born.
What started as one person in a home salon has grown into something I never could have imagined. A true spa environment built entirely around the emotional and physical wellbeing of every animal that walks through our door. Private grooming rooms, calming pheromones, soft music, Fear Free certified care, and a team of groomers who share the same values I have carried since day one.
But somewhere along the way I realized something that changed everything again. What I have built here is not just about pets. It is about people too.
Watching my team grow, seeing them gain confidence, develop skills, and find their place in something meaningful, that moves me in a way I did not expect. I want Zen Pet Spa to be a place where careers are built, where people who love animals can thrive, teach, lead, and one day build something of their own. I think about teenagers who struggle in traditional school settings but light up around animals. I think about young people who just need direction, a craft, and someone who believes in them. Zen Pet Spa could be that for someone. That possibility drives me every single day.
Bridget, Colleen, and Frank are not just my team. They are proof that when you build something with the right values, the right people find their way to you. Each of them brings a level of care, skill, and dedication that I am genuinely grateful for every single day.
We are Fear Free certified, pet first aid certified, and our owner holds additional AKC safety certification. We are committed to continuing education because this industry evolves and our pets deserve groomers who evolve with it.
Zen Pet Spa is more than a grooming salon. It is a living, growing mission. For the pets who deserve better. For the people who want to build something meaningful. And for the community we hope to serve for a very long time.
We are just getting started.
